It’s about time… at NATIONAL
Every day, we’re lucky to be in the company of strong, confident, incredibly smart women in our offices across the Firm, including nine in Canada. Sixty seven per cent of our staff are women. That’s why it’s jarring to hear that it is estimated that every two hours in Canada, one woman dies from metastatic breast cancer (or mBC). It’s a disease that many simply aren’t aware of, and since it’s different than the breast cancer we hear about most often, we don’t always know much about it.
During Breast Cancer Awareness month this October, NATIONAL is proud to be a part of a new campaign devoted to building awareness of mBC across the country. Three inspiring breast cancer organizations – the Canadian Breast Cancer Network, Rethink Breast Cancer and the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation – have partnered to launch the “It’s About mBC Time” campaign. Its focus: telling the stories of Canadian women who have been touched by mBC to change the country’s perceptions about this incurable disease.
Metastatic disease is something few want to speak about, leaving women with mBC feeling isolated, alone and excluded from the greater breast cancer conversation.
To help tell the full story, NATIONAL designed a new wearable symbol for the mBC community – reminding us that it’s time to raise awareness and shed light on mBC. Breast cancer is a story half told and it’s about time we talk about the other half.
This Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day, we’d like to invite you – our friends, colleagues, clients and peers – to join us in raising awareness this month and every month by visiting a website, and sharing the video below using #mbctime.
It’s a movement that’s close to our hearts and we thank you for your support in helping us expand the conversation about mBC.
