NATIONAL worked alongside the BCSPCA’s stakeholder and government relations team to overhaul its strategic approach as it was looking to obtain capital funding from the BC government for its multi-million dollar Facilities Development Plan. It also wanted to establish itself as a trusted advisor and stakeholder on all animal-related policies. With NATIONAL’s support it refocused its efforts on key decision makers, local politicians whose communities would directly benefit from the facilities in need of replacement and/or renovation and MLAs known to be personally interested in animal welfare. Over a three-year period, the BCSPCA had dozens of meetings with government officials, and held events at the Legislature to tell its story. The BCSPCA received $10 million in funding from the 2015 and 2017 provincial budgets.
