NATIONAL client Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro wins two Silver Leaf Awards

Silver Leaf is presented by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), Canada’s premier professional awards program celebrating excellence in business communication. Good to Know: Connecting customers through educational digital content
Following significant events on Newfoundland and Labrador’s electricity system and public attention on how the electricity system was operated, Hydro devised a plan that focused on educational content through their social media channels. The communication goal was to promote an understanding of Hydro’s work in a way that better aligned with their narrative. NATIONAL worked with Hydro to develop the “Good to Know” program, which was launched in 2018 and gained momentum as the year progressed. “Good to Know”, and its subcategory “Get to Know”, was a proactive start to a conversation with Hydro’s customers and employees that is ongoing today.

Why We’re Here: Hydro’s Internal Communications Strategy
Following Hydro’s separation from its parent company in mid-2016, an employee consultation in late 2017 showed that employees knew that change was coming, but were uncertain about where the business was headed and what it meant for them. It was time to tell the Hydro story of change, independence and focus, and a clear communication strategy was needed to guide how the story would be told. NATIONAL partnered with Hydro to assist in the development of the strategy, brand narrative and creative, and to provide creative content development and support. Together, we developed the “Why We’re Here” campaign, which was launched company-wide as the catalyst for a fresh start and the foundational element of Hydro’s communications strategy going forward.
