Janet MacMillan
Janet serves as lead strategic counsel to a number of the Firm’s clients. She helps infrastructure, manufacturing and renewable energy projects succeed, and guides clients in the resource sector as they secure the social license to operate. Janet's expertise is in strategic planning and governance, stakeholder engagement, corporate communications and crisis and issues management.
Janet became a partner in NATIONAL Public Relations in December 2012 when NATIONAL acquired a majority interest in MT&L Public Relations, a leading Atlantic Canada firm she and her partners owned and grew for 10 years (she had been part of the firm for several years prior.
A Fellow and accredited member of the Canadian Public Relations Society, Janet is also certified by the US-based Institute for Crisis Management and the International Association of Public Participation (IAP2).
A passionate community volunteer, Janet has contributed to the success of the East Coast Music Awards, Tall Ships International and the World Figure Skating Championships. She was privileged to support Canada’s Olympic team at the 1992 Barcelona Games as media attaché. Her governance experience spans such organizations as United Way, Symphony Nova Scotia, Grace Hospital, QEII Foundation. Janet was the first layperson to be named to the Canadian Board of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. Most recently, Janet served as chair of the board of Mount Saint Vincent University, Halifax. Janet currently serves on such national boards as the RCMP Foundation and Sail Canada; regionally, she is a member of both HMRI - Halifax Marine Research Institute and FORCE - Fundy Ocean Research Centre for Energy.
